My husband wanted a manly diaper bag for Christmas the year Big Picky was born. My mom was more than happy to have a gift idea for Mr. Picky (who is a tad difficult to shop for.) Surprisingly, there were several good options out there. The Skip*Hop Duo stood out from the crowd with it’s multitude of pockets and nifty convertible strap. The Skip*Hop Duo quickly became our go-to diaper bag.
The Basics
The Skip Hop duo is an innovative diaper bag with a unique strapping system that allows it to attach to the handle bars of any stroller and also be worn as a traditional diaper bag.
The Raves
Attaches to stroller: The Skip*Hop bags attach to a stroller. The regular shoulder strap detaches, and two short strap click around each stroller handle. Very convenient.
Durable: The durable nylon has held up to two years of abuse and still looks new.
Pockets Galore: A place for everything and everything in its place. I can quickly grab any item from this bag with my eyes closed. The duo sports 2 large front pockets. In our bag, one is for adult things – wallet, camera, lipstick (I really like the bag, too!) The other is for “fast grab” kid items – a munchie, tissues and a couple toys. On the exterior, there are also 2 side pockets. One is intended for a cell phone, put we keep the “emergency” items hidden in there – binkis and Godiva chocolate… both work equally well to quiet Big Picky. The other side pocket is mesh and perfect for a sippy cup or water bottle. On the back side of the exterior is a pocket with a changing pad. Inside, there are 2 zipper pockets that are about half the depth of the bag – one holds 2 or 3 diapers and wipes, the other is the “medicine” cabinet – travel sizes of Butt Paste, Tylenol, lotion, sunscreen, Medela disinfectant wipes, a Tide pen and a small roll of plastic bags. Also inside are 4 smaller pockets. I dedicate 2 to each Picky – 1 each for feeding and 1 each for toys. The open middle section just fits a change of clothes and a few stray items.
Grownup Colors: Last I checked you could choose from 18 colors and patterns, ranging from fun and subdued. None of the patterns had cute little bears or baby blocks. We went with black.
The Rants
Not CD Friendly: If you cloth diaper when you’re out and about, the size is a little small. We cloth diaper, but use disposables when we’re out for long enough for the size to matter.
Other
Most of Skip*Hop’s line is very suitable for a man bag. Except for the Studio Tote and City Chic, the designs are very gender neutral. You’d never even realize the bag was a diaper bag, unless you’d check the contents.
