FuzziBunz One Size Diaper

I’m a repeat cloth diaper user. I used cloth on Big Picky and again for Lil Picky. I already had quite a nice stash from Big Picky, so it was hard to justify buying more for Lil Picky. But, as any one who CD’s knows, fluffy mail is addictive. There’s something irresistible about getting that squishy envelope with a new diaper, especially if it’s a fun color or new style. I resisted temptation… until my beloved FuzziBunz announced their One Size diaper.

The Basics
The One Size is Mother of Eden’s latest addition to the FuzziBunz diaper line up. This newcomer is a one-size pocket-style reusable cloth diaper, claiming to fit babies from 6 to 30 pounds.  The unique feature of this one-size diaper is that it adjusts through elastic on the leg openings and waist. The button-hole elastic adjusts like toddler and maternity pants:  pull it and button it to make the waist and the leg holes the size you need. Neat idea.  BumGenius! and most other one-size diapers snap down in the front.

The Raves

Color: With the addition of the One Size, FuzziBunz freshened up their color palette… or at least that’s when I notice the bright new daisy prints and the luscious apple green.

Quality: The workmanship is great. The seams are even; the stitching tidy. The microfleece lining wicks moisture away from delicate skin, is soft and doesn’t pill. The waterproof outer is a durable, but not stiff or plastic-y, polyurethane laminate (PUL)

Absorbency: I was pleasantly surprised to find a new, improved insert with the One Size. The new insert has 4 layers of microfiber terry cloth. I like the insert almost as much as the Nurtured Family Contours (my favorite mass produced inserts and the only other 4 layer microfiber insert that I know of.)

The Rants

Adjustment: Elastic, rather than snaps. The idea is neat. Really clever. The extra cloth that usually gets folded up front is more evenly distributed. BUT… it just didn’t work for me. I didn’t get a leak-free fit on either of my girls. The area that was the worst was the waist. I pulled that elastic as far as I could, but still had to over lap the front taps for both Lil Picky (7 months) and Big Picky (2 years). Big Picky could use a doughnut or two, but having to overlap the front tabs is absurd. Both my girls currently wear medium FuzziBunz Perfect Fit.

Elastic Tails:  After you adjust the elastic, you tuck the end of the elastic into a small opening. It looks nice and tidy… but it’s a pain. If I only had one munchkin wearing the diapers, it wouldn’t be an issue. Adjust it once and forget it. But Big Picky and Lil Picky share. It’s quick and easy to unsnap the rise on a BumGenius!  It’s a pain to pull the FuzziBunz elastic out, unbutton it, adjust, rebutton and stuff the little end back in. Thus, we live with the little elastic tails hanging out.

Fit: There is only one row of snaps on the One Size. It’s right along the top. I really miss the second row of snaps that the Perfect Fit has. The front droop  and looks sloopy without them.

Leaks: I don’t know if it’s the fit or the adjustment, but after about a week of daily wear, I never found a leak-free setting.

Other

Cloth diaper preferences vary from mama to mama, baby to baby. What works for one may not work for another.  If you’ve tried the FuzziBunz One Size, please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

The Verdict

This diaper did not work for us. I ordered 3 and was relieved I only tried 1. The other 2 were returned.  I’m sticking to my FuzziBunz Perfect Fit.
