I knew the jump from 1 child to 2 would be a challenge. I knew Big Picky would want attention and the new Lil Picky would miss the constant rocking from her previous home. I also knew I’d want to get some housework done at some point. I concluded that a staff of 3 (nanny, maid and gardener) was slightly out of our budget. I settled on finding a better carrier. A Baby Bjorn freed up my hands to get cleaning done with Big Picky. I knew there was something even better out there. After trying on an assortment of carriers (with Big Picky running around the store and new born Lil Picky giving me the evil eye for being waken with every transfer to a new carrier) I fell in love with the Baby Hawk.

The Basics

BabyHawk is a stylish line of Mei Tai style baby carriers. A Mei Tai carries your baby or toddler on your front, back or hip with simple wrapping ties.

The Raves
Fabric Selection: Baby hawk has an absolutely beautiful selection of Fabrics to choose from. And if you don’t find one of their beautiful combinations to your liking, you can custom order one.

Comfort: I can’t get over how comfortable this carrier is! It securely holds your baby closer to your body than the other carriers I’ve used (Kangaroo Korner pouch and Baby Bjorn). Since the baby is closer, it feels more secure. There is just the right amount of padding, both on the shoulder straps and for the baby’s neck/head. Enough for comfort without bulk.

Compact: I can fold this carrier up and toss it in my diaper bag.

Ease of Use: I was intimidated by the ties on these… for no good reason. These are surprisingly easy to use. After about 3 or 4 times I was whipping this on like a pro. The BabyHawk is easier for me to use than a pouch style carrier. I will warn you that the front and hip carry is much easier to master than the back carry. If you have an active baby, have a helper around for the first few attempts to wrap her onto your back.

The Rants
Long Straps: I understand that the straps are long because people are wide. But I find this a hassle. I’m trim, so after wrapping the straps around me, there’s a lot left.

Rear Facing: The BabyHawk can only be used rear facing for a front carry. With the Bjorn, the baby faces front. Front facing is great for a nosey baby. But, I’ve read articles that most front facing carriers put stress on the baby’s crotch and spine.

Other
TheBabyWearer.comis a great reference if you’re new to baby carriers or looking to try something new. I found the articles and reviews to be very helpful.

The Verdict

The BabyHawk provides great function without giving up any style. I recommend it to all new moms.
